You’re a hag! If you’ve been here awhile you might already know this but if I met you yesterday at the mystery monster movie screening, consider yourself a hag. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be an ugly old woman to be a movie hag but I will say I am partial to ugly old women. Swamp witches like Meg Mucklebones and witches in general like Baba Yaga are my favorite so being a hag is absolutely very cool and is definitely the inspiration behind the name.
So… hags! This week we’re watching Tremors and I wanted to give you everything you’ll need for movie night (whenever you choose to watch it this week) in case you want to make it a special occasion with things like:
learning or refreshing your memory on the synopsis of the movie
preparing a Tremors themed cocktail
printing out the Tremors drinking game
TREMORS (1990)
“They say there’s nothing new under the sun. But under the ground…”
Val McKee and Earl Bassett are in a fight for their lives when they discover that their desolate town has been infested with gigantic, man-eating creatures that live below the ground.
Can’t say I love that tagline. You know what would’ve been a lot better? “They say there’s nothing new under the sun. But under the ground… there’s mother humpers.”
It’s the final movie in our lineup of monster movies and this one is currently only streaming on Paramount+. If you don’t have that platform, you might want to check and see if this one’s at your local library. It’s been a welcome change in my weekly routine to go to the library for movies and it’s the closest thing we have to a video rental store if you think about it.
Food That Makes An Appearance
I haven’t decided on dinner plans for movie night but here’s some inspirations based on conversations that happen in the movie as well as what I spotted while watching:
bologna and beans
eggs
swiss cheese
orange crush soda
beer
I’ll probably do some kind of cornbread and beans situation but I can’t promise I’ll be adding any bologna because even though I grew up having it, I cannot imagine revisiting it would be a nostalgic experience. Let me know if you think I should give it another chance and let me know if you get something inspired by this list.
Tremors Themed Cocktail
AKA Mother Humper Margs

This is actually the Prickly Pear Pineapple Mezcal Margarita from Join Jules so you know it’s good. She also made our Secret of NIMH cocktail. This is so delicious, I don’t know if it’s the mezcal or the spicy honey but this is my new favorite cocktail.
Ingredients:
1.5 oz Mezcal
1.5 oz prickly pear water
1 oz pineapple juice
3/4 oz lime juice
3/4 oz Cointreau
1/2 oz agave syrup, or hot honey
Garnish with tajin
Instructions:
Coat the rim of a glass with a sliced lime and dip in tajin. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shake with ice and pour into an old fashioned glass or similar style glass over ice. Taste and shout an expletive in your best southern accent.
Drinking Game Printable
A word of warning, take care when drinking or eating during the worm guts scenes but if you think you can stomach it, download the drinking game here. That’s all for now! I hope you enjoy watching or rewatching Tremors, one of the best monster movies that ever monstered.
